The longest limousine in the world: a 30-meter monster was thrown in the parking lot

Created in the 1990s by Jay Orberg based on a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado, the American Dream Limousine was officially recognized as the longest car in the world, and the record was included in the Guinness Book of World Records. The length of the limousine from bumper to bumper is 30.5 meters.

The huge car had 26 wheels and two engines - front and rear: it does not have a complex driveshaft and a tunnel in the floor that goes through the entire cabin. The limousine is also equipped with a putting green, a hot tub, a swimming pool with a diving board and a helipad.

However, after 20 years of sitting in a parking lot, the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado nearly fell apart. New York State's Autoseum Technical Education Museum plans to restore the limousine with the help of students. The project will be financed through donations.

For transportation, the American Dream was cut into two parts and partially loaded onto tow trucks. We hope that Autoseum students will be able to recreate it, as well as return the pool and heliport.

Restoration work should be completed by spring 2021, after which the car will be on display.

Vehicle length is determined by make, model, configuration and number of optional features. While some people like compact cars, others prefer more spacious vehicles. In addition, older cars lack many of the features that make our cars safer and more beautiful today. Advantages such as GPS screens, airbags, anti-lock systems, large dashboards and various sensors installed in modern cars can make them several centimeters longer and wider. In this case, the dimensions justify themselves. But today we will talk about a limousine, the dimensions of which can only be explained by the passion of its creator for meaningless dimensions.

The length of some car models is determined not by functionality at all, but by the desire to demonstrate status. And this category includes a limousine. Everything about the limousine, from price, length and materials used, creates the desired aura of luxury.

From the Midnight Racer, which is a large luxury limousine that even has a ladder, to the American Dream, which is the longest limousine. Let's focus on the latter: what makes the American Dream such a special vehicle?

The world has seen many cars over 12 meters long, but The American Dream stands out incredibly among them. In 1986, the popular customizer Jay Orberg, who had previously created the Batmobile, produced this giant canoe. Until now, just imagine, no one has broken the American Dream record for length - 30.5 meters.

To help you visualize the scale of The Dream, imagine six 2020 Toyota Corolla cars in a row or a row of six 2020 Lexus RX 350s. Represented? Well, The American Dream will still be longer!

In fact, this giant is more like a yacht with many wheels. It has a jacuzzi, a double bed, a living room, a swimming pool, and a helipad at the tail. Essential features for a car, right?

One question must be bothering you: how does a 30-meter car with twenty-four wheels fit into corners? Maybe it was created exclusively for straight and wide roads? Everything is not so simple: in fact, the car consists of two parts connected by a hinge, which requires a special person to control.

How "Dream" ended up in a landfill

Luxurious cars such as the American Dream are primarily for rental or film or television production and are serviced as long as there is demand for them. However, it seems that this limousine did not line up for kilometer-long queues, or maybe its maintenance turned out to be too expensive.

Recent receipts show it was hired by a US company for use as a promotional item and later left to rust in a warehouse in New Jersey. Such an ending seems unsuitable for such luxury with a Guinness record under its belt, but that's exactly what happened.

When the car was brought up in 2012, the tires were stolen, the windows smashed, the roof torn off, the heliport looked more like a hellish gate, and nothing was left of the hot tub.

Where is the longest limousine now?

The

"Dream" slowly rotted in the dustbin of history, being forgotten by everyone until the New York Automotive Educational Museum purchased the limousine in 2014. It began to be used to teach engineering students how to repair, design and generally work with cars.

The giant was then split in two and sent to the Desertland Park Automotive Museum in Orlando, Florida for a complete restoration.
