Clinton Presidential Library - Little Rock, Arkansas

    Where We Be

Clinton Library -- Little Rock, Arkansas

Clinton's presidential limousine is parked in the lobby

The Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock
is chock-full of informative displays and videos
    about Clinton's presidency (1992-2000). Just
inside the lobby is his Presidential limousine.
The real highlight of the library, though, is a
full-scale replica of the Oval Office exactly as
it appeared during his presidency. Clinton is
said to visit the library from time to time and
walk through the “Oval Office” just to make
sure everything looks as it should. There’s
also a recreation of the Cabinet Room.

We enjoyed a video made during Clinton's final
year in office poking fun at his lame-duck
status. It showed him with way too much time
on his hands – reduced to doing the laundry,
washing the Presidential limo, and mowing the
lawn. One Clinton quote we particularly liked:
“There is nothing wrong with America that
cannot be cured by what is right with America.”

According to a long-established protocol, the President always sits in the central position,
    with the V
P across from him, Secretary of State to his right, and Secretary of Defense to his left

This exact replica of the Oval Office as it appeared during
Clinton's presidency is one of the highlights of a visit here

This is the far end of the Oval Office, where Clinton
would relax with visiting dignitaries and statesmen

Replica of the Cabinet Room. We learned the President’s
chair is always two inches higher than all the others.

Campaign buttons on display from Clinton's second presidential
race in 1996. We like the one saying "Bring Back Socks!"

"Why yes, Mr. President, we'd love to join you"

Clinton wanted to be a saxophone player before deciding to enter politics

Example of a table set up for dinner at the White House

View looking out at the Arkansas River from the cantilevered part of the building

We got a kick out of this exhibit showing kids' drawings of President Clinton during his years in office

A timeline exhibit runs down the middle of the main floor, with each panel focusing on one year
of Clinton's presidency. The topic-oriented alcove exhibits surround the timeline on both sides.

Robin stands in front of the entrance to the nearly 70,000 square foot Clinton Presidential Library

The main building cantilevers over the Arkansas River, echoing
Clinton's campaign promise to "build a bridge to the 21st century"

The heart of the library is a series of 15 alcove exhibits on the main
floor each focusing on a key aspect of Clinton's presidency

A temporary exhibit at the library used Legos to create everything from a portrait of Bill Clinton to a crayon display

American Tradition Continues: America's New Presidential Era Begins with New Cadillac Presidential Limousine
    • January 20 President Obama Tests New Car in Inaugural Parade

During the inauguration celebrations for the new President of the United States, a new Cadillac will lead the procession next week along Pennsylvania Avenue. President Barack Obama will ride in the new Cadillac Presidential limousine. This will continue the long tradition of US Presidents using Cadillac limousines.

"Cadillac once again has the honor of being the president's limousine," said Mark McNabb, Vice President, North America, Cadillac/Premium Channel. "This is a great American tradition, and we are proud to be able to continue it with a brand new, wonderful Cadillac model with a new design and impressive technical stuffing."

The image of the President of America greeting his people from a Cadillac limousine goes back to President Woodrow Wilson and generally to the beginning of the era of motorization. Now this tradition is making a new historical turn. The new Cadillac Presidential limousine, made for Barack Obama, has a completely new design, and was created following the previous version of the DTS Presidential, released in 2004. The new limousine has a huge number of design and technological innovations and was created taking into account the most stringent requirements that apply to transportation funds for presidents.

Inside and out, the Cadillac presidential limousine features many of the brand's signature features. The front of the car is adorned with an openwork double grille, used on the most popular Cadillac models - the CTS sports sedan and the Escalade model. In addition, vertical headlights, taillights and mirrors used on other production models are installed on the presidential car.

For reasons mainly related to functional qualities, such as optimal visibility, the car has become slightly higher than its predecessor. However, the new Cadillac Presidential occupies almost the same place on the road as the previous model, since it has a length and width commensurate with it.

The design of the new presidential limousine is reminiscent of the Cadillac STS and DTS luxury sedans. New design and technology in the new interior of the car are combined with the traditional high quality performance of Cadillac. The main elements of decoration are made by hand. These same processes are used to assemble other popular Cadillac models such as the CTS sports sedan.

Naturally, much of this limousine is designed and built specifically for the presidential vehicle. The rear of the passenger compartment is a luxurious, exclusive compartment with plenty of space for passengers, excellent visibility and useful office equipment.

The car has been designed and tested by specialists, taking into account a huge number of requirements for its performance. It has been subjected to rigorous testing to ensure that the resulting performance meets the established functional requirements. During the entire process of preparing the car, special attention was paid to ensuring that all requirements related to passenger safety and confidentiality were met.

Embroidered presidential crest in the center of the rear seatback and on each door trim. The image of the presidential coat of arms is also on the outer part of the rear doors. The US flag is mounted on the right front fender. When the President himself is in the car, the presidential flag is installed on the left front fender. At night, the flags are illuminated by high-tech LED lights.

History - Cadillac and US Presidents

Cadillac has been creating limousines and special edition vehicles for United States Presidents, diplomats, ambassadors and foreign dignitaries since the early 20th century. This canonical tradition of the brand continues to live today.

The most important role in the history of the United States, Cadillac began to play during the First World War, when a large number of Cadillac engines and cars were modified and adapted for military and government needs, because they had great power and high reliability. One of the first political leaders to use Cadillacs was President Wilson, who at 1919, drove through the streets of Boston during the parade dedicated to the victory in the First World War. The luxurious 1928 Cadillac Town Car was also in the garage of the administration of President Calvin Coolidge.

In 1938, two Cadillac convertibles, the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth, were handed over to the American government. Named after the huge ocean liners of the time, these vehicles were 21.5 feet long, weighed 7,660 pounds, and were equipped with full ammunition, two-way radios, and powerful generators. Reliable and durable, the two Queens have served Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

President Dwight Eisenhower, an avid automobile aficionado, rode during the inaugural parade in one of the first Cadillac Eldorado limousines, which began production in 1953, the year of his inauguration. The Eldorado represents an important milestone in the history of automobile design, as it featured the first panoramic windshield, an innovation that quickly spread to many new production vehicles.

In 1956, the Queen Mary II and Queen Elizabeth II convertibles replaced the first generation cars. They became a little more compact, but, like their predecessors, they were fully armored and had the latest means of communication. Moreover, narrow hoops were installed in the tires in case the wheels were shelled. Queen Mary II and Queen Elizabeth II served not only President Dwight Eisenhower, but also John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Both cars "retired" at 1968

Ronald W. Reagan administration received Cadillac Fleetwood and Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham limousines in 1983. The presidential series car was given to the administration of William J. Clinton in 1993. Unlike previous models, which were Cadillacs modified by independent limousine conversion companies, both of these cars were fully developed, tested and built by General Motors and Cadillac . The improvements related to these limousines include the entire set of work to ensure the personal safety of passengers and confidentiality - this area has developed in subsequent years.

Ronald Reagan's 1983 Cadillac limousine is currently installed at the Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley, NY. California, and a 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham at the Bill Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, NY. Arkansas.

During the past decade, Cadillac has produced two presidential limousines that are still in service today. The first - Deville Presidential - was released in 2001 for George W. Bush. In 2004, President Bush moved into the new DTS Presidential. It was the first version based on a generation of redesigned DTS full-size sedans, just one year after series production began.

5 facts about Donald Trump's new limousine. Is he cooler than Aurus Putin?

Now the President of the United States rides in a limousine nicknamed The Beast. And although the Cadillac logo flaunts on its hood, it was made on the basis of a pickup truck. But not all the cars of the presidents wore the Cadillac logo and not all were limousines (one was a bus, and an ominous one at that).

Further, all prices for cars are inflation-adjusted.

    Lincoln K Sunshine Special, 1939, 249021 $

The first special car for the president (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) was such a Lincoln. There were few changes compared to the standard model: wider footpegs and additional handles on the body. At the beginning of the war, the car received armor and bulletproof tires, a gun cabinet and thick glass.

    Lincoln Custom, 1942, $49,102

This Lincoln's armor, which cost the taxpayers an extra £7,000 (fitted by English experts), required brake modifications. After the war, the car was given a more modern look.

    Lincoln Cosmopolitan, 1950, $540,000

After the war, President Harry Truman ordered a new Lincoln limousine. Among the main requirements was not only armor, but also a raised roof. A convertible version for parades was also released. The limousine was equipped with a V12 engine with a volume of 5. 8 liters and a power of 152 horsepower.

    Lincoln Continental, 1961-1972, $1,741,003

The elegant Continental received four presidential versions. Latest Model 1972 years was then updated, as it was operated until the 1980s. It was the last presidential convertible. After the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963, no one else from the first persons of the state dared to travel in convertibles.

    Cadillac Fleetwood, 1983, price unknown

The first Cadillac in the President's garage was a Fleetwood that was never driven by anyone other than President Ronald Reagan. The vehicle had armor and a raised roof.

Lincoln Town Car, 19'89, Price Unknown

Bush Sr. opted for a Lincoln car, something no other president has done. The armor on the car turned out to be so strong and heavy that a significant revision of the engine, gearbox and braking system was required.

    1993 Cadillac Fleetwood, $1,567,952

Technology advanced rapidly in the 1990s, and President Clinton's 1993 Fleetwood was full of high technology. This armored car with a V8 engine could accelerate to speeds of more than 225 km/h. It had telephones and satellite communications, which allowed the president to work while traveling.

    Cadillac DeVille, 2001, price unknown

Bush Jr.'s DeVille only looked like a DeVille. This is the first experience of creating a presidential car from scratch, on an individual order. For example, he got the frame from an SUV. There are even more modern technologies in it and even a night vision system has appeared.

    2005 Cadillac DTS, price unknown

After the September 11 terrorist attacks, President Bush got a heavy-duty limousine. Once again, it was built from the ground up on a heavy-duty chassis, although it looked like a DTS sedan. His 13cm armour, puncture-proof tires, and non-opening windows protected the President like no one before him. By the way, it was the fastest of the presidential limousines, capable of accelerating to 240 km/h.

    2009 Cadillac One $363,965

President Obama's limo was not as fast as Bush's. Due to its large mass, it could travel at a maximum speed of 97 km/h. But it was the most advanced and safest presidential limousine of the time. It could spew tear gas, had chemical defenses, and even had a blood vault to transfuse in case things got really bad.

    Ground Force One, 2011, $1,272,825

And here is the exception to the list. The bus did not bear the title of presidential limousine, but was part of the cortege and served as a mobile control center used by the president. It is armored, autonomous and allows you to manage the country on the road.

    2018 Cadillac The Beast $1,554,795

Many presidential limousines have carried The Beast name. But the version used by President Trump has become the most terrible of all. In fact, this is an updated version of the Cadillac model 2009year, with steel and ceramic armor and so many protection systems that it can be considered a mobile bunker.
