A Night We Won't Forget!
Galaxy Limo was nothing short of amazing. Kirk was awesome from planning until the day of. He was super responsive and made changes as needed. He even let me know that I overpaid on the tip as I did not realize it was included in the price! I appreciated his honesty and integrity. We loved the party bus! Our driver was very accommodating and made sure we were comfortable. He even asked me if I had everything I needed before getting on the bus. We had full control over the bluetooth and were stocked up on drinks! At the end of the night, our driver even drove us around a little extra since we were having so much fun! I highly recommend Galaxy Limo! It truly was a day we will never forget, thanks to Kirk and his team!

We used Galaxy as the transportation for our wedding that was at the end of May. The limo bus that the wedding party took and the limo that I took with my parents to the church were both modern and clean. Everyone was great. Definitely recommend!

This summer in Chicago stood unbearable heat, and Mellodi Hobson dreamed as soon as possible to roam: she needed to bend: she needed it put everything in order in her Chicago office, because she might not be here for a long time now. Things turned out to be just too much - after all, Mellody served as head of the board of directors of Dream Works Animation.
- Can I congratulate you? out of nowhere, a perky journalist flew up to Mellody with a funny falsetto voice that did not fit his lanky figure.
— Congratulations on what? said Mellody Hobson.
— That is, how about what? With a wedding, of course! With the coolest wedding of the century with the coolest groom of the century!
— Who actually let you in here? - Mellody, who a moment ago was laughing out loud at something with her friend, suddenly switched to a dry, official tone. However, when she saw the guy's long face, she changed her anger to mercy:
- Listen, don't be offended. It's just that my husband really doesn't like me to give interviews.
— Can I at least take a picture with you? Your husband is my favorite director, really,” the young man squeaked and thrust his mobile phone to his friend Mellody.
. .. About a month ago, on June 22, 2013, director George Lucas, the legendary creator of Star Wars, really became Mellody Hobson's husband. Was she proud of it? Still would! They met with George since 2006, having met at some conference on ecology, and Mellody did not even hope that someday Lucas would decide to propose to her, a 43-year-old African-American woman far from art! After all, Lucas turned 69 this year.! If he had delayed another year, he would most likely have decided that it was too late for him to become a husband and he was quite satisfied with the easy role of a boyfriend. And yet it happened. The command tone that Mellody is used to at work will have to be left behind: Lucas loves it when she coos. In her life that has changed dramatically, Mellody still cannot get used to many things, for example, to a private helicopter that can take her from anywhere to the famous Skywalker Ranch near San Francisco, where Lucas has lived for many years. And now, as soon as she finished her business in Chicago, a limousine would drive her to a private helipad outside the city.
Mellody was terribly afraid of flying and usually calmed down when she saw familiar buildings in the distance. A brilliant strip of ocean is on the left, on the right is a mountain range, and now you can see a large guard house under giant sequoias. The ranch of her husband George Lucas is spread over 1200 hectares! In a sense, the whole country ...
At first, Mellody was a little shocked by the incredible amount of security around the house and the barbed wire fencing the property, but, on the other hand, her husband is the owner of a fortune of several billion, so is it any wonder?
An employee told Mellody that the grounds, including the Lucas House, an old white 19th-century building, once belonged to the monastery. In 1869, a retired captain bought the land, surrounded the old mansion with terraces, built stables and a winery. Later, his son built a two-storey library in the art nouveau style...
And quite recently, an acquaintance took it into his head to assure Mellody that in fact it was just a beautiful legend. And the "antique" ranch was actually built in 1980s by Lucas himself. Mellody laughed heartily at this completely innocent lie, but George, for some reason, blushed to the roots of his hair... ! George needed a remarkable effort to overcome his shyness and put his hand on Mellody's shoulder in public.
— You will never dare to kiss me in front of everyone! Mellody teased him. - How can we get married?
On the part of Lucas, proof of the seriousness of his intentions to start a family with Mellody Hobson was the fact that in the fall of 2012 he nevertheless decided on a deal that had been going on for many years: he sold the brainchild of his life - the Lucasfllm film corporation, as well as the film epic and the brand " Star Wars "Walt Disney Company for more than 4 billion. The next morning, Lucas woke up in a cold sweat and with a feeling of growing panic ("grabbed the phone to cancel the deal: his whole life was in work, he was burying himself alive ?! But, remembering the advice of his therapist, George did some slow deep breaths and gradually mastered himself. He marries Mellody and from now on intends to work only as a husband and, possibly, father of a family. George does not want to do anything else! All his life he shot, produced, directed, built his Star Wars brand - and got out And if he had managed to stop earlier, he would not have lost much, which he regrets ...
Stop. After all, he forbade himself to think about it a long time ago, why do thoughts about the past stubbornly climb into his head? He hasn't lost anything, he has Mellody. Her beauty and sonorous laughter will reward him for everything. Mellody has long been acquainted with his three adult children - Amanda, Katie and Jett, and it seems they got along well. Clever Mellody knows how to do everything easily, with a smile, Amanda even admitted to her stepmother that she became interested in women's boxing and was going to compete in the ring. How embarrassed I was before! Gradually, Mellody managed to pull almost all the skeletons out of the Lucas family closets, well, almost all of them. At first, after Mellody finally moved in with George, it honestly seemed to him that he was unlikely to withstand the constant presence of a sympathetic, loving, but asking a million questions woman nearby.
— Shall we have dinner at home or in a restaurant? Would you like a car? Let's watch a talk show together? Did you like pudding?
Mellody reminded George of his mother in her busy solicitude. She, too, was always asking a million questions, and as a boy, I remember, he often growled and snapped in response. However, his mother annoyed him much less than his father. George Lucas Sr., who made a small fortune selling stationery in the small California town of Modesto, infuriated his son a hundred times more. Why, for example, did he assume that George would certainly inherit his father's business and also take up pencils, rulers and writing paper? George had a strong distaste for his father's business, although he had no idea what he himself would like to do.
— Is it true that you dreamed of becoming a car racer? the restless Mellody once asked George.
— Where did you get that from? George was surprised.
It turned out that I read it in an encyclopedia. Lucas, it seems, is not yet a monument, but he is already listed in encyclopedias, and everyone is lying there!
No, he never wanted to be a racing driver, moreover, he was terribly afraid of speed. It's just that among the guys in Modesto in the late 50s, it was considered cool to have your own car. And since George did not come out tall - he was half a head shorter than his three sisters - besides thin and lop-eared, I wanted to at least pretend that he was no worse than others and, like everyone else, was interested in cars. On the “Fiatika” donated by his father, on the very first day, the boy crashed into a tree at speed and miraculously survived. And if it weren’t for the occasion, I probably would never have found my true calling!
Once, after finishing school, George ran into a restaurant to deliver something to his father's client. In the parking lot, a folder slipped from his clumsy hands, and a dozen amateur photographs he had taken spilled out onto the pavement. A large man, who was busy with his car, picked up one and the other, looked at them closely and stopped the embarrassed George, who was picking up pictures.
— And you have an eye, boy! The big guy approved. “Interesting faces, on this one there is a funny family scene, and here there is a beautiful play of light on the side mirror of a car ...
Cameraman Haskell Wexler, who was he, wrote down the name of a skinny, lop-eared boy blushing with embarrassment and handed him a note with the address of the Los Angeles film school USC.
- Run and apply, kid. I'll call them myself...
George, of course, did not realize that he would be seriously interested in this strange occupation - making movies. On Veksler's recommendation, he was actually accepted. When he first appeared at the USC film school, sheltered in mixed-sized buildings on the eastern outskirts of Los Angeles, he was dumbfounded: the film department was located in three lopsided wooden houses on the outskirts; there used to be stables here. The equipment then, in the mid-60s, was short: a minimum of cameras and editing tables, and once again, a small shed where sound was recorded. Soon it turned out that student Lucas could not be torn off by the ears from shooting; in addition, he learned how to famously mount and make sound. As a result, his first student work "A Look at Life" and the second "1:42:08" won the main prize at the student film festival.
Soon the smallest and frailest student at the film school was nicknamed the Generalissimo. If George needed to, he could make an entire army work for him. Cinema is a collective work, and for the sake of his graduation film, Lucas, for example, persuaded the famous racer Peter Brook to shoot for 10 minutes in exchange for a 3-month free job as a car mechanic for him! George persuaded his classmate John Milius to steal the advanced clair camera from his father, and for two weeks of filming the guys hid it in George's car! At the student viewing, George's parents sat modestly in the last row - so as not to embarrass themselves; Lucas Sr. would still be convinced that nothing good could be expected from his son.
— The film of the Generalissimo will be shown now! Everyone in the hall! shouted one of the students.
— We should probably leave, Gertrude, — George Sr. did not like to blush: it is clear that everyone here makes fun of his son.
— Where are you going? - the boy at the entrance stopped them. - Now they will show the film of the best student of our school, Lucas! Stay!
Lukas was afraid of girls like fire. He had no doubts: it is impossible to fall in love with someone like him: he is ugly, tongue-tied, timid ... Apparently, his destiny is to make films, and everything else is not for him. The most that George could decide was to offer to take a series of photographs to some young lady. Watching the girls from the sidelines through the peephole of the camera seemed to George not so dangerous.
... Arriving at Lucas' ranch for the first time in 2006, Mellody Hobson, then just a friend but already proud to be the "girlfriend" of the Star Wars creator, was surprised to find no posters or photographs on the office walls. - nothing reminiscent of the glory of the owner. An old clock on the wall, a calendar, and a couple of landscapes. Approximately also looked the office of Mellody herself. But she is just a business woman, and does not make fantastic films known to the whole world! And suddenly she was struck by the discovery: George shot Star Wars as a very young man, it was more than 30 years ago!
“How many films have you made in total?” Mellody asked nonchalantly, not realizing that she was stepping on George's sore toe.
— As a director, only 6, — Lukas replied frowning.
— So little? she burst out. For some reason I thought you had a lot more of them!
Sitting on the swivel chair at Lucas's desk, Mellody obviously didn't realize that Lucas didn't want to keep the conversation going. Mellody had already opened her mouth to ask another question, but Lucas hurriedly said:
- I'm exhausted after Star Wars. It was pure hell. To tell the truth, I don't even want to remember. ..
...George carefully avoided these memories for many years, even when alone with himself. And why would Mellody need to know the details of who led him through all this hell... Marcia Griffin, as if this woman had never existed in the first place. And how wonderful it all began! After graduating from film school, Lucas tried to be in time everywhere: he worked as an assistant on the film of his friend Francis Coppola's "Rain People" and worked as an editor at the Verna Fields film company. Lucas' supervisor was a young, energetic brunette, Marcia Griffin. Being a year younger than George, she has already become a professional editor, having come to the film industry literally from the street. Marcia came from a poor, large family abandoned by her military father. Quite by accident, she first found herself in the cinema library, selecting additional material for films for directors, then gradually got involved in film editing. Marcia, with her invariable ponytail and smoking cigarette, taught Lucas the skill, and he was only amazed at how talented she was in this matter. Marcia simply adored cinema and especially editing. Rearranging pieces of history, cutting out the excess, thereby changing the meaning of the film, was her passion, she was ready to stay completely free in the editing night all the time, when Lucas himself was nodding off, thinking nothing and asking for mercy. It took Marcia three weeks to figure out where he came from from the shy, reserved George.

Marcia clapped her hands : it turned out that she was also born in Modesto, but lived there for only six months. This detail melted the ice: George was no longer covered in red spots when Marcia put her hand on his shoulder in a working fuse, now, on the contrary, he held this beautiful hand.
Their romance took off and a couple of years later led to a wedding. They rented a small house in the suburbs of Los Angeles - in San Anselmo, and Marcia learned the most intimate secrets of George: that he snores, reads comics and laughs like a child, hitting his knees, and can only have sex in complete darkness. But he cherished Marcia very much and gradually, corner by corner, opened his soul to her.
George suffered a heart attack when Marcia did not like his early fantasy film Galaxy THX1138 as a result, although she even helped edit it.
- Too abstract, not a single emotion! I don't understand how you can watch it! — said the wife of Lucas after the studio screening.
Marcia has always been distinguished by her sharpness and directness of statements, especially when it came to her professional sphere. That day he came home after midnight and was shocked to see Marsyas extremely worried. She rushed to meet him, trying to find out where he was and why he had not called, she was so worried!
“I thought you left me,” George muttered. — You didn't like my film...
In order to prove to his wife that he was able to do something not abstrusely boring, but lively and light, he set to work on the film American Graffiti, which Francis Coppola undertook to produce as a friend. This unpretentious comedy about the lives of young guys in the 60s, about their hobbies for cool cars, rock and roll and long-legged girlfriends, George went to shoot in his hometown of Modesto, where he managed to involve almost all of his childhood friends. George's parents adored Marcia, because she translated to them into understandable language the behavior of their own son. George sits in the corner, snarling, shaking his leg? He just wants some sweet things like chocolate or fruit. Thoughtfully scowling at breakfast and pushing away mom's vanilla pudding? Don't worry, Mrs. Lucas, George just needs to get a couple of pieces of paper - he wants to rewrite one place in the script.
“It's a pity that you weren't around when he was growing up,” his father-in-law repeated, looking at his daughter-in-law. “Perhaps I wouldn’t have spent so many nerve cells trying to figure out what this Martian needs!” But how does he communicate with the actors?
With difficulty. And that has always been a huge problem on set. It costs him a lot of work to clearly convey his idea to others. Knowing his weakness, Lucas adapted himself to take Marcia with him everywhere. The actors often turned to her for guidance, especially since Marcia knew the script by heart. How dare she not know if she remade and reshaped it dozens of times with George!
“You don't just have to get into the car, John,” Marcia explained to the actor. “First put on your face relief, joy!
— Damn it! George didn't really say anything to me, he just grimaced, but I didn't understand anything! the actor got angry.
"Just grimacing," George tried to show what to do with his face, since eloquence was never his strong tool: not to say, but to show - well, or draw - it was much easier for him.
Soon Lucas could no longer do without Marcia at all - almost like a sick person without a nurse; she became his everything: they did not part for 24 hours a day, because when the shooting ended, the editing began, and this was already the whole kingdom of Marcia, Lucas only played the role of an assistant with her. Marcia was very much appreciated in Hollywood, her services were literally worth their weight in gold. Coppola, for example, dreamed of getting Marcia into his editing room for at least a couple of consultations. One look at the material and this thin woman, wearing jeans and sports shirts, who did not attach any importance to fashion, was already pointing with two fingers with a smoking cigarette, how and what to rearrange to make the story play.
Of course, Lukas was jealous of everyone. And he secretly dreamed that Marcia worked exclusively with him. But after the failure of the picture "Galaxy THX1138" they have accumulated debts. How can a wife not work here? And Marcia had to tear herself apart in order to mount during the day for money, and to sit all night long over her husband's picture.
Who could have guessed that "American Graffiti", released in the spring of 1973, would become a hit and gross $100 million at the box office? That he will be nominated for an Oscar in five main categories? When in the end they were not awarded a single one, Marcia burst into tears right in the hall during the ceremony. Lucas nervously tugged at the waistband of her dress to pull herself together, and as a result, the waistband tore off.
...But, in fact, what did Marcia see in the early years of her marriage? Only endless, exhausting work. With the release of American Graffiti, they had money, and for the first time Marcia hinted that she finally wanted to take a break, maybe have children.
— I promise you all this! George swore solemnly.
But how could he keep his promise, if he was already completely taken over by another idea that had been brewing in his head for a long time? And Lucas knew for sure that Marcia would not approve of her. A journey through the Universe, a grand struggle between good and evil... He will weave echoes of his favorite adventure films of the 50s, an old action movie about Flash Gordon into the plot, transfer all this to other worlds, and come up with new magical heroes. Since childhood, Lucas loved only two types of reading - comics and science fiction; his last passion was not shared by anyone from his inner circle, and George stopped sharing his passion with anyone. And now, suddenly, feeling some self-confidence and freedom, he quickly dashed off a 200-page script, without limiting his own imagination in any way. But on the discussion of the script, on its thousandfold rewriting and squabbling with Marcia about every character and every plot twist, their entire married life went without a trace. And this is instead of the promised rest and a child!
Lucas fought to get 8 million from 20th Century Fox for the film, but the studio dealt with George very harshly in terms of the fee: he was offered a miserable 150 thousand for the film, but Lucas insisted that in return he receives 40 percent of the collection and all merchandising rights from the painting. This, of course, meant that in Hollywood they were almost sure that the chances of success of the "children's fairy tale" were very small and no one really believed in it. After some thought, Lucas accepted the conditions, deciding that it was still better than nothing - at least he would try to fulfill his dream.
The first part of the film was filmed in North Africa, in Tunisia, where they created the world of the desert planet Tatooine (named after the city in Tunisia!), where the robots ended up, who, according to the plot, escaped from the Empire. Lucas brought with him several tons of scenery. There was no digital technology at all, so everything had to be done by hand, a hundred technicians and engineers worked on the picture, setting in motion robots, puppets and everything else. Instead of an asteroid rain, they shot ordinary potatoes, then they will mount all this with flying spaceships. As "beam swords" they came up with the idea to use ordinary wooden sticks coated with reflective paint. Moreover, these damn “swords” constantly broke during the fights!
The unbearable heat made Lucas's head hurt, but, as always, he was running out of time: for everything about everything, including editing and voice acting, the studio allocated less than six months! To save money, shooting was carried out simultaneously in three pavilions, Lucas moved between them on a bicycle and was completely exhausted by dinner.
The biggest drama for George was that Marcia flatly refused to go with him to the shooting, saying that she simply could not stand the African heat. Without her, it was hard for him to communicate with the actors, he screamed a lot, tearing his throat, strained, looking for the right word, and when he was completely exhausted, spitting on everything, he handed over the reins of power to the second director. Filming took place in such a hurry and hassle that Lucas felt as if he was constantly in a nightmare. Before he collapsed exhausted on the bed at night, he wrote long letters to Marcia in order not to go completely crazy. Sometimes he tried to make her laugh, describing how a dwarf was found to control the smallest robot and after filming they forgot to remove the poor fellow from the equipment. He himself could not get out and desperately screamed until someone heard.
Lucas thought that while he was on set, Marcia would at least rest at home. It was not there, they were worth each other! Instead of resting, Marcia accepted Martin Scorsese's invitation to edit the film New York, New York. You see, she loves Scorsese's paintings very much and is afraid that an inexperienced editor will spoil them! George's eyes darkened with jealousy when he imagined his wife next to Scorsese. Damn Martin is a woman-hunter and probably drags his wife around the dance halls and whispers obscene things in her ear. And how beautiful Marcia is in tight dresses! How Scorsese squints his eyes and smiles... George could not fall asleep until the morning, tormenting his imagination with these pictures, and the next morning he was back on the bike and back and forth, back and forth... Here, in Tunisia, George understood one thing for sure: he hates directing!
Lucas returned home looking like his own shadow, but there was nothing to think about rest! I had to harness myself to work again and harness Marcia. The hired editor did everything wrong, and she again had to sit for days to re-edit the picture. Sometimes they did not come down from the attic of their house, where they set up an assembly room, for 18-20 hours. George measured time with overflowing ashtrays: if all seven were filled to the brim with Marcia's cigarette butts, they would soon be buried alive here. A week before the show, they still didn't have a single finished copy.
In the spring of 1977, on the eve of the film's release, George finally lost his nerve; he realized that he would go crazy if he sat at home and broke into every phone call, expecting to hear from someone that the cat had cried in public, and those few who did come left the session. Marcia urgently bought tickets and took her husband to Hawaii. Pale, exhausted, half-mad, they looked rather strange among the tanned, carefree audience. At the hotel reception, they double-checked their names several times - the employees clearly could not believe that a strange couple with a lilac complexion, dressed in battered jeans and T-shirts, had the money to pay for an expensive room.
In the morning they stared dazedly at the turquoise sea and tried to drive away thoughts of the picture. George taught Marcia to throw flat pebbles into the water to make circles. She forgot to put on sunscreen, and by evening her back was blistering.
Returning to the room, the couple found that the phone was broken. Glancing apprehensively at Marcia, George shook his head, saying that there was no way I would come. Their film has been bought by 40 cinemas so far, if there are no fees, they are ruined; everything earned on Graffiti will have to be paid for debts, but they are unlikely to pay off in full.
Pursing her lips and bracing herself for the worst, Marcia resolutely picked up the phone.
—... What? she screamed into the phone. “Say again, I can’t hear!”
Elinor, Francis Coppola's wife, called. In all the cinemas where Star Wars is shown, there are kilometer-long queues! In several places, the police had to be called: people demanded to arrange night sessions! They fight over tickets, it all looks like mass insanity!
George and Marcia bravely held out for another week in Hawaii. Spreading a towel that looked like a firebrand on a deckchair, George nervously mumbled: they must be just crazy teenagers, now their wave will subside, and it will become clear that their success equals the first few days of teenage hype. But friends, producers and studio bosses, who cut off the phone, reported in shock: what kind of teenagers are there! Respectable people, white-collar workers from the surrounding offices run to take a queue at the lunch break at the box office of cinemas. The film was watched by Senator Kennedy. From "Wars" Muhammad Ali himself is delighted. The film has already been bought by 300, 400, 500 cinemas, there are not enough copies to show...
- It is possible that we will earn good money, Marcia, just imagine! Lucas muttered in confusion.
She looked at her husband puzzled through cheap sunglasses bought at a pharmacy. They both seemed to have been knocked off their feet. Maybe the blinding Hawaiian sun made it difficult to think, but only Lucas, who loved to eat yogurt in the morning, suddenly uttered a phrase that they would laugh at for the rest of the time left before parting:
— Maybe we should buy a yogurt shop?
. ..Mellody Hobson, who became the new Mrs. Lucas, it was no coincidence that when George bought his Skywalker Ranch, he had long ago divorced his first wife, a fleeting woman in his life, a mistake of youth. Lucas tried hard to maintain the impression that Marcia's light foot had never set foot in his domain. Because everything that happened between him and his first wife after the release of Star Wars was unbearable for his pride. Lucas complained to his close friends - Eleanor and Francis Coppola - that his wife had probably gone nuts from overwork: she simply began to harass him with the demand to have a child. But he never specified that it was he who turned out to be infertile, and Marcia, who accepted this, begged at least to adopt the baby. Didn't he go for it for her? At 19In 81, they had a plump laughter Amanda, but for some reason Marcia still plunged deeper and deeper into depression. She was vied with each other to work - not only to edit, but also to shoot herself, even to be a producer, but after Star Wars something happened to Marcia - she didn’t even want to think about the work that she had previously adored.
— What do you want, George? Eleanor Coppola tried to reason with Lucas. “She just cracked up. You yourself drove her.
Why didn't Marcia rest in those luxurious conditions that her husband provided her with? After all, Star Wars brought them a colossal fortune that continued to grow exponentially. Not only did the film make a box office of 220 million in America alone in 6 months, the main thing was different - the 20th Century Fox studio was biting its elbows that it gave Lucas completely and completely the rights to merchandising! Meanwhile, the production of Star Wars paraphernalia began to rapidly turn into a separate industry: they began to mass-produce dolls, games, toys, symbols, video games and everything else. Between 19In 1977 and 1978, only toys related to the film were sold for 100 million! Perhaps no one else in the history of cinema has gotten so rich on the reproduction of the iconic images of the film.
In 1980, he started building his ranch, trying to combine in one project both the family home and a giant film studio where he and his like-minded friends could shoot. Marcia, it seems, hated the future ranch from the very beginning, anticipating that her husband would be devoured by this idea, to which he now devoted as much time as before to cinema. Directing, George obviously overate, he was shaking at the mere thought that he might again find himself on the set. From now on, he will hire people for the next Star Wars series: let them write scripts, shoot, and his job is to observe, correct and finance. As for Marcia, now dragging her into the editing room to look at how the staff of six people hired by Lucas edits the next series of the famous saga was a very difficult task. Lucas often had to literally beg her to do her a favor and at least look at the final cut. "Star Wars" was no longer interested in her, it was a passed stage of their life. Isn't it time for her husband to finally make a "normal" movie?
— But you dreamed of making independent films! Marcia scoffed. “Why the hell spend all day bricking and choosing tempered glass?”
Marcia has ceased to understand who she is, why she exists, and how she now fills her life. She no longer had any goals: Marcia Lucas received the long-awaited Oscar for editing Star Wars (by the way, George himself was bypassed with a statuette), so what else could a simple girl want, who made her way into the powerful film industry with her own work and without special education?
Small, frail, in the same jeans and T-shirts, never learning how to wear expensive clothes, Marcia wandered restlessly around the vast territory of the ranch under construction and sparkled with a giant diamond on her finger - the only sign of her wealth. She shied away from all this army of servants hired by George, she grabbed the rag herself, she spilled something, she ran the dishwasher herself, she wanted to cook for the family, as she always used to do. She was embarrassed by all these cooks, nannies, cleaners, she wanted to call George for help, but it would take at least half an hour to stomp in the heat to the office, where he now hung out all day long! How George has changed! She just didn't recognize her husband. From a lively, creative, restless person, before her eyes, he turned into some kind of cracker-businessman - he got an assistant, a staff of long-legged secretaries, an army of security guards, introduced an idiotic dress code. Now Marcia could not even give an interview at her own discretion - it is necessary, you see, to coordinate with her husband's press department!
- I really don't like what George has become! - Having broken once from the coils, Mrs. Lucas hysterically shouted to a reporter from People magazine who accidentally phoned her. "I can't live like this!" He hasn't made love to me in months. More than anything, I want to put dynamite under this ranch!
George, fascinated by his new toy and currently concerned only with how to give the estate an "old money" charm, turned a blind eye to his wife's antics. Therefore, when one day Marcia entered his office and announced from the threshold that she was leaving him, he did not raise an eyebrow, continuing to discuss the estimate with the manager.
- We're getting a divorce, you hear! Marcia yelled in his ear, and only then did George's eyes start to look worried behind the horn-rimmed glasses.
He dragged her out of the office somewhere, she resisted, shouted something... And only on the street, on the path lined with white locust, did he finally realize what his wife had told him. The cruelty that had caused him such pain Lucas had not forgotten. As they walked, shouting and waving their arms, along this very path, Marcia laid out everything to her husband: they were not just getting divorced, she fell in love with another, he hears, right? Another. And this other one is designer Tom Rodriguez hired by Lucas. Unlike her husband, he is always glad to see her and always at her service.
They divorced in 1983, George gave Marcia a significant part of his fortune - $ 50 million without a fight, but he never wanted to hear about her again and gradually the name of his first wife disappeared from all his interviews, encyclopedias, articles and books, just like Marcia Lucas never existed. Mutual friends - and Coppola, and Spielberg, and Scorsese - stopped inviting Marcia to Christmas and birthdays, because George asked them to. Marcia soon married Tom Rodriguez, moved to another state, gave birth to a daughter, Amy ... But their adopted daughter, Amanda, Lucas grabbed a stranglehold; only for winter and summer vacations did she go away for a short time to Marcia.
...After being betrayed by his only love, George fell into a black depression; there was no one else to live for - after all, it seemed to him that everything he did - he did for Marcia. It is difficult to live in the world for someone who was born monogamous ... Again, somehow, not without the help of doctors, friends and pills, having learned to get out of a dressing gown, wash, smile and talk to people, George suddenly realized that he desperately wants a family, that he can no longer to sit at the table just the two of you with Amanda, who grew up as a sad, traumatized child. And soon the girl had a new sister and brother. It seemed to Eleanor Coppola that in this way George wanted to take revenge on Marcia or call her back; but most likely both together...
In the 1990s, Lucas hoped something would come of his long-term relationship with pop singer Linda Ronstadt. Linda often came to the ranch, smiling sweetly at George's children, but she preferred to spend most of her time alone on horseback rides - Lucas kept a magnificent stable. In the end, it seemed to George that the company of stallions for Miss Ronstadt was preferable to his own, and they parted.
It took him another ten years to pay attention to another woman - this time Mellody Hobson, and seven years to decide to finally propose to her.
...Still, it's good that George's new wife doesn't really know anything about the first Mrs. Lucas. Because until now, George has only to talk about Marcia, as his voice trembles treacherously. Coppola recently mentioned that Marcia's marriage to Rodriguez was unsuccessful and they broke up.
